CHENNAI: Harish IPS officer, Age 32, found dead in officer’s mess

Harish IPS death :

The death of the 2009-batch officer in the rank of additional superintendent of police with the directorate of vigilance and anti-corruption came as a shock to many as his wedding was arranged for next month. Soon after the news of Harish IPS death, there were outbursts in social media about the way young officers are handled by seniors.

Sources said Harish IPS was depressed and had taken to drinking owing to personal reasons. The last straw was denial of promotion on grounds that he had not cleared the mandatory Tamil proficiency test for officers.

Local police said the cause of death was yet to be ascertained. The body was sent to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH) for post-mortem. A native of Karnataka, the Tamil Nadu cadre officer was transferred from Madurai a month-and-a-half back. Incidentally, he was a batch-mate of D K Ravi, the Karnataka IAS officer whose suicide made news in March 2015.
While some officers said Harish IPS had to face some official inquiries, official sources said there was no inquiry pending against Harish IPS . DGP Ashok Kumar was not available for comment.
Harish’s father Nagarjuna is a Karnataka state government employee in Hoskote taluk in Bengaluru rural district. He is survived also by his two sisters.
